Principal, Planner and Interior Designer
Heather holds a Master of Planning degree in Urban Development from Ryerson University, and a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Interior Design (Hons) from Algonquin College in Ottawa. She is a Registered Professional Planner with the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia and a provisional member of the Interior Designers of Canada and the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia.
Accustomed to working in multidisciplinary teams, Heather is experienced in land-use planning, land development, and commercial and residential interior design. Prior to becoming the Principal at People plus Space, Heather worked in Toronto, Ottawa, Shanghai and the Okanagan, in the planning and interior design sectors.
Heather’s unique combined background in planning and design provides the ability to diversify her approach to any project. Her background provides her the ability to begin the conceptual planning and development, followed through with the building design and technical site planning, while finishing off an aesthetically pleasing and functional environment. The ability to visualize and work in several areas of expertise provides a well thought out and executed design from the streetscape to the architectural building components to the refined millwork. Her understanding of the public realm and ability to develop a functional environment makes the People plus Space practice a progressive and sought-after design company.
Beyond her work environment, Heather enjoys working with organizations in the community. In 2013 she joined the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity South Okanagan and is the former Affiliate Chair. Heather also is a Member at Large on both the City of Penticton’s Affordable Community Task Force and Agricultural Advisory Committee.
